What is the current rating of your connectors?
a. Micro Connectors on .050” (1.27mm) centerlines can carry 3 Amps per contact.
b. Nano Connectors on .025” (.64 mm) centerlines can carry 1 Amps per contact.
How many mating cycles can your connectors withstand?
The Mil Spec requirements for Micro and Nano connectors are 500 & 200 cycles respectively. Omnetics’ Micro and Nano connectors, however, have both tested and passed tests up to 2,000 mating cycles.
Can we terminate our own wires?
Mil Spec Micro and Nano contact require precision crimps done on automated crimpers. There are no hand crimp tools available for these types of connectors. These contact types are permanently installed and encapsulated in the insulators by the manufacturer with epoxy. Omnetics can terminate many types of wires and perform complete cable harnessing along with backshells and overmolding. If your application requires you to terminate your own wires, we can supply connectors with soldercups ready to accept your wire.
Why can’t I find drawings of my part on your website?
Many parts we build are customer and application specific. We must respect non-disclosure agreements and maintain the confidentiality of our customers. If your drawing is not available online, please contact Omnetics and we can email your drawing immediately.
I want to order per your catalog description, why do you need to assign a custom part #?
Most times a catalog description is not sufficient enough to specify all the variables of a part. We assign custom #’s and create complete drawings for your review. This greatly reduces the chance of miscommunication. It also assures that you have complete design control over the part for your application.
Why do you call your sockets “male” and pins “female”?
Our contacts are based on Mil-Specs that use a “reverse gender” naming system, so "male" and "female" may be incorrect terms. The sockets are the exposed contact. They may at first glance appear to be pins, but they are in fact the socket. Our pins are recessed and protected inside the insulator, and at first glance may appear to be sockets.
Are your connectors RoHS compliant?
We can build RoHS compliant versions of our connectors. However, it is our standard practice to use lead based solder consistent with the demand from our high-rel customer base. If you require RoHS compliance, please be sure to specify that need to us.
What is your lead time?
Omnetics stocks several parts considered (COTS). These are available for shipping within one day of ordering. Several other standards exist with accelerated 4-6 week lead times. Other built to order standards are available in 8 weeks. Complete custom assemblies can carry 8-12 week lead times.
Does Omnetics supply QPL connectors?
Yes, Omnetics is a fully approved QPL manufacturer of MIL-DTL-32139 and MIL-DTL-83513. Other non-QPL parts still meet or exceed the requirements of various Mil-Specs.
Does Omnetics build Space Qualified parts?
Yes, Omnetics connectors are suitable for space applications. We can perform various levels of space screening to suit your application.
Are Omnetics’ connectors suitable for Medical applications?
Absolutely, Omnetics builds connectors for many high end medical devices with worldwide approvals. We can work with you to select the proper materials to fit your Medical device.
What is a Bi-Lobe® connector?
Bi-Lobe® is a registered trademark of Omnetics Connector Corp. It refers to our most popular nano connector. The contacts on both the plug and receptacle are protected by a metal housing. This metal housing is polarized by 2 lobes, thus the name Bi-Lobe®. The Bi-Lobe® is available in QPL (MIL-DTL-32139) & Non-QPL versions.
What is Omnetics minimum order size?
For Off the Shelf connectors the minimum order size is $100.00 per item. For built to order jobs, the minimum is $ 200.00 per item.
Does Omnetics offer overmolded solutions?
Yes, Omnetics has 3 molding machines capable of finishing off cable harnesses with clean and functional strain reliefs.
